🍎 Apple Integrates Google Gemini Into Siri’s Upcoming AI Search

Apple is developing "World Knowledge Answers," an AI-powered web search feature for Siri that will provide intelligent summaries and compete with ChatGPT and Perplexity, potentially using Google's Gemini AI models.

What's happening:

  • Apple and Google signed formal agreement for Gemini testing
  • New search tool called "World Knowledge Answers" internally
  • Will provide web summaries like ChatGPT and Google AI overviews
  • Expected launch spring 2026 with iOS 26.4
  • May expand to Safari browser and Spotlight search later
  • Apple is testing multiple AI partners, including OpenAI and Anthropic
  • Two versions in development: Apple's models vs third-party AI
  • Gemini models would run on Apple's Private Cloud servers

Why it matters:

This represents Apple's biggest AI strategy shift as the company admits it needs external help to compete with Google and OpenAI. After falling behind in the AI race and delaying Siri upgrades until 2026, Apple is willing to partner with competitors.

The move could reshape the search landscape by giving Apple's billion users an alternative to Google Search, while ironically using Google's own AI technology to do it.

🛒 Amazon Debuts Lens Live for Instant AI-Powered Visual Shopping

Amazon rolled out Lens Live, an AI-powered camera feature that instantly identifies products in the real world and shows matching items available for purchase, integrated with Rufus AI assistant for product insights.

  • Available to tens of millions of US iOS users now
  • Expanding to all US customers in the coming months
  • Powered by on-device computer vision and cloud AI
  • Matches against billions of Amazon products instantly

Why it matters:

Amazon is turning the entire physical world into a potential shopping catalog, making impulse purchases easier than ever. By combining visual search with instant purchasing, the company aims to capture sales that might otherwise go to competitors.

This positions Amazon to compete with Google Lens and Pinterest's visual search tools while leveraging its massive product database and fulfillment network for immediate gratification shopping.

📸 Google Photos Adds Veo 3 AI to Animate Still Photos into Short Videos

Google upgraded Photos with Veo 3, its advanced video generation model, allowing users to turn still photos into short animated videos and transform images into anime, comic, or 3D animation styles.

What's new:

  • Veo 3 creates higher-quality 6-second video clips from photos
  • The New Create tab centralizes all AI editing tools
  • Remix feature transforms photos into anime, comic, and sketch styles
  • The collage tool creates layouts from multiple photos
  • Highlight videos create montages with music from search prompts
  • Cinematic Photos generates 3D renderings of existing images
  • Animation feature turns multiple photos into GIFs

The upgrade transforms Google Photos from a simple storage app into a creative platform that competes with specialized video editing apps, potentially changing how people interact with their photo memories.
