📱 Apple Considers Using ChatGPT And Claude Technology To Power New Siri

Apple is reportedly in talks with OpenAI and Anthropic about using their AI models to power a completely new version of Siri, potentially replacing Apple's struggling in-house technology. The company has asked both firms to train custom versions that could run on Apple's cloud infrastructure for testing.

What's new:

  • Apple is talking with OpenAI and Anthropic about powering new Siri
  • Both companies are training custom models for Apple's cloud servers
  • Anthropic's Claude appears to be the preferred choice so far
  • Current AI-powered Siri delayed from 2025 to 2026 or later
  • Anthropic is asking for multibillion-dollar annual fees
  • Apple already integrates ChatGPT into Siri for complex queries
  • New Siri expected to launch with iOS 20 in 2027
  • Similar to Samsung's approach using Google's Gemini for Galaxy AI

Why it matters:

This marks a huge shift for Apple, which typically develops core technologies in-house. By potentially outsourcing Siri's AI brain to external companies, Apple acknowledges it's falling behind in the AI race against Google, OpenAI, and others.

The move could finally give iPhone users a truly conversational assistant that matches the capabilities people expect in 2025.

💼 Google Brings Custom AI Assistants To Gmail, Docs, And Other Work Apps

Google is rolling out Gems - personalized AI assistants - to Gmail, Google Docs, and other Workspace apps. These custom AI agents can be trained for specific tasks and now work directly inside the apps people use for work every day.

What's new:

  • Gems now work in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides side panels
  • Create custom AI assistants for specific work tasks
  • Pre-made options include a writing editor and a brainstormer
  • Upload files to train your Gem on specific information
  • Access through the new Gems section in the app side panels
  • Use @-mentions to reference files and folders
  • Available for Google Workspace customers
  • Rolling out over the coming weeks

Why it matters:

Instead of switching between different AI tools for various tasks, people can now have personalized AI assistants that understand their specific work needs right inside the apps they already use.

This saves time by eliminating repetitive setup and makes AI assistance feel more natural and integrated into daily workflows.

📸 iPhone Screenshots Work With AI To Recognize And Organize Content

Apple is upgrading Visual Intelligence in iOS 26 to work with screenshots, letting users identify objects, add events to calendars, and search for products directly from anything on their screen. The feature extends AI capabilities beyond the camera to work with any app or content displayed on iPhones.

What's new:

  • Visual Intelligence now works with screenshots, not just the camera
  • Take a screenshot and get AI suggestions for calendar events
  • Ask ChatGPT questions about anything on your screen
  • Search Google, Etsy, and other apps for similar products
  • Highlight specific objects in screenshots for targeted searches
  • Automatically extract dates, times, and locations from events
  • Works with third-party apps that support App Intents
  • Available on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models only

Why it matters:

Instead of just saving screenshots to your camera roll, iPhones can now understand and act on the content within them. This turns screenshots into interactive tools that can schedule events, shop for products, or answer questions about what you're looking at.

It's Apple's response to Android's Circle to Search feature and could change how people interact with content on their phones.
