🎥 Google Launches Veo 2 and Makes Gemini Live Screening Free to All Android Users

Google has released its Veo 2 video generator to paying customers while making Gemini's camera and screen analysis features free for everyone with an Android phone.

What's new in Veo 2:

  • Creates realistic 8-second videos at 720p from text descriptions
  • Available to Gemini Advanced subscribers on the web and mobile
  • Handles physics and movement more naturally than previous versions
  • Includes digital watermarks to identify AI-generated content
  • New Whisk Animate turns regular images into short videos
  • Videos can be shared directly to TikTok and YouTube
  • Limited number of videos are allowed per month

What's new in Gemini Live:

  • Camera and screen sharing are now free for all Android users
  • Analyzes what your camera sees to provide information in real-time
  • Previously only available on the newest Pixel and Samsung phones
  • Helps identify objects like animals and provides details about them
  • Answers questions about what's on your screen
  • Rolling out over the next few weeks to all Android devices

Why it matters:

By making video creation available to paying users while giving free visual analysis tools to all Android owners, Google is finding ways to bring AI to more people.

The visual tools can help users get information about objects around them, while creators can now make videos without filming anything.

🧠 OpenAI Upgrades Reasoning Models With Image-Based Thinking Capabilities

OpenAI has enhanced its o3 reasoning model lineup with upgraded versions that can now incorporate images directly into their thinking process, while gaining access to all available ChatGPT tools.

What's new:

  • Upgraded o3 model, described as their "most powerful reasoning model"
  • New o4-mini model offering strong performance at a smaller size and lower cost
  • Both can now integrate images directly into their chain of thought, reasoning
  • Can manipulate images (zoom, rotate) during problem-solving
  • Full access to all ChatGPT tools, including web browsing and image generation
  • Available today for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers
  • Coming to o3-pro in "a few weeks"
  • Will replace older models (o1, o3-mini, o3-mini-high) for these tiers

Why it matters:

This upgrade represents a significant advancement in how AI reasons with visual information.

By enabling models to "think" with images from sketches or whiteboards and manipulate them during analysis, OpenAI is making its AI more effective at understanding and solving real-world problems in collaborative environments.

🤖 Grok Catches Up to Rivals With New Memory Feature That Personalizes Responses

Elon Musk's xAI has added a memory feature to its Grok chatbot, enabling it to remember user preferences and details from past conversations for more personalized interactions.

What's new:

  • Grok now remembers previous conversations to provide tailored recommendations
  • Full transparency with visible memories that users can review
  • Option to delete specific memories or turn off the feature entirely
  • Available in beta on Grok.com and iOS/Android apps
  • Not available for users in the EU or UK regions
  • Memory management through the Data Controls page in settings
  • Coming soon to the Grok experience on the X platform

Why it matters:

This update represents a significant step in Grok's development as it works to match established features already offered by ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

By adding memory capabilities while emphasizing user control over stored information, xAI is addressing both personalization needs and privacy concerns as AI assistants become more integrated into daily digital interactions.
