🤖 Anthropic Launches Claude Opus 4.8 With Improved Honesty and Agentic Abilities

Anthropic upgraded Claude Opus to version 4.8, improving honesty, coding reliability, and judgment on complex agentic tasks, available at the same price as Opus 4.7.

What's new:

  • Available now everywhere at the same price: $5 per million input tokens, $25 per million output tokens
  • Around four times less likely than Opus 4.7 to let flaws in its code pass unnoticed
  • More likely to flag uncertainties and less likely to make claims that it can't back up
  • The alignment team found substantially lower rates of deception and misuse of cooperation than Opus 4.7
  • Fast mode runs at 2.5x speed and is now three times cheaper than previous models ($10 per million input tokens, $50 per million output tokens)
  • Defaults to high effort, spending similar tokens as Opus 4.7 but with better performance

New features launching alongside:

  • Effort control on Claude AI and Cowork lets you choose how hard Claude works on a response - higher settings think deeper for better answers, lower settings respond faster and use rate limits slower (available on all plans)
  • Dynamic workflows in Claude Code (research preview) let Claude plan work, run hundreds of parallel subagents in one session, and verify outputs before reporting back
  • Claude Code with Opus 4.8 can handle codebase-scale migrations across hundreds of thousands of lines of code from start to finish
  • Messages API now accepts system updates mid-task so developers can change permissions, token budgets, or context while an agent runs

What's coming:

  • Anthropic is working on models with the same Opus capabilities at a lower cost
  • Plans to release Mythos-class models with higher intelligence than Opus to all customers in the coming weeks, once cybersecurity safeguards are ready

Why it matters:

Anthropic is competing on trust rather than raw intelligence with this release, which makes sense in a market where every new model claims to top the benchmarks. The honesty improvement targets a specific frustration: developers who get burned when AI confidently says it fixed a bug or finished a migration, only to find broken code later.

By making Opus 4.8 four times less likely to let its own coding flaws slide, Anthropic is betting that engineers and businesses care more about a model they don't have to babysit than one that scores a few points higher on a test.

🎬 Runway MCP Brings Image And Video Generation Into Claude And ChatGPT

Runway launched Runway MCP, a connector that lets you generate images and videos directly inside Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible agent without leaving your workflow.

What's new:

  • Available now via runwayml.com/mcp
  • Connects Runway to AI agents and coding tools you already use
  • Generate product images, marketing videos, and hero assets from your conversation
  • Pass your agent a product URL, reference image, or text prompt, and Runway handles generation
  • Output comes back in the same window
  • Access to latest models: Gen-4.5, Seedance 2.0, GPT Image 2, Kling 3.0, Nano Banana Pro, and more
  • Setup takes seconds: add Runway as a custom connector in Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor with the server URL and sign in
  • No separate API key required, generations tied to your existing Runway plan

What you can build:

  • Send your agent a product page, get back a polished marketing video ready for launch
  • Drop in a product image, generate new visual assets alongside your website copy and code
  • Write a line of dialogue and set the scene, let Runway produce a character-led product ad
  • Build apps and sites that need visual content without leaving your editor

Why it matters:

Runway is making itself available wherever people already work instead of forcing them to come to its own app, which is smart given how many creators now live inside coding tools and chat agents.

By offering every major image and video model through one connector, Runway becomes the middleman that handles generation, no matter which AI you prefer, positioning itself to profit from the AI boom regardless of which chatbot or coding tool ends up winning the larger race.

🎵 ElevenLabs Music v2 Switches Genres Mid-Track And Builds Songs By Section

ElevenLabs launched Music v2, a music-generation model that can switch genres mid-track and lets artists build songs section by section, nearly 10 months after its first music model.

What's new:

  • Available now on the ElevenCreative tool for marketing and branding teams, and the newly launched ElevenMusic platform, with ElevenAPI coming soon
  • Switches genres mid-track, going from opera to heavy metal and back
  • Delivers fast rap without losing coherence
  • Adds non-musical sound effects to a track
  • Pick a part of a song and re-create it using prompts without touching other parts
  • Build songs by sections (intro, verse, chorus), then stitch them together instead of generating short clips
  • Performs more reliably across languages, lyrics, vocals, and arrangements
  • Built on licensed data and cleared for commercial use, so users can freely use the tracks

Why it matters:

ElevenLabs is making a point of using licensed data and clearing tracks for commercial use, which sets it apart from Suno and Udio, who got dragged into copyright lawsuits for training on music without permission.

This matters for marketing teams and creators who can't risk using AI music that might trigger legal trouble down the line, so ElevenLabs is going after the business customers who need to know their tracks are safe to use, rather than hobbyists who just want to experiment.
