⚡ OpenAI Launches GPT-6.1 Sol to Generate Complex Responses at One-Fifth the Cost of Its Flagship

OpenAI has launched GPT-6.1 Sol, an upgrade to GPT-6 Sol that brings near-GPT-6 Astra intelligence at a fraction of the price.

What’s new:

  • GPT-6.1 Sol is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, one-fifth of what GPT-6 Astra costs, with cached input at $0.10 per million tokens, making it significantly cheaper to run at scale
  • On complex software engineering tasks in real codebases, it matches GPT-6 Astra’s performance at one-fifth of the cost
  • On professional document work across finance, healthcare, and legal, it outperforms Claude Opus 5.5 at less than half the cost and comes close to GPT-6 Astra at one-fifth the price
  • On multi-step business workflows across sales, marketing, operations, finance, and HR, it scores above Claude Opus 5.5 at roughly a third of the cost
  • On computer use tasks, it outperforms the previous GPT-6 Sol by seven percentage points at less than half the cost
  • On scientific research tasks including data analysis and simulation, it delivers results at $5.47 per task on average, compared to over $23 for Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra
  • It is 32% less likely to give a factually incorrect answer than GPT-6 Sol at low reasoning effort
  • Available now in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users, and through the OpenAI API
  • GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast, with up to 8x faster token generation, is coming to Codex in the coming days

Why it matters:

Frontier AI models have always come with a trade-off: the best results cost the most to run, and most teams either overpay or settle for less. GPT-6.1 Sol closes that gap in a meaningful way.

For anyone who has been holding off on building with GPT-6 Astra because the cost does not pencil out, this changes the calculation.

🏢 Google Launches Gemini Agent to Handle Tasks Across Workspace, Devices, and Slack

Google announced the Gemini agent at Gemini at Work 2026, a single AI built to handle knowledge work, content creation, data analysis, and coding across every tool and device enterprises already use.

What’s new:

  • The Gemini agent works as a unified assistant or a coworker agent with its own email address, calendar, and company directory listing, giving teams a way to delegate tasks to AI the same way they would a colleague
  • It runs inline inside Gmail, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Chat, and Calendar, carrying the same memory and controls across all apps without needing to be re-briefed
  • Gemini is accessible across web, iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Microsoft 365, Slack, and command line, and can also run as a headless agent inside third-party applications without needing its own interface
  • It recognizes delegatable tasks in your inbox and surfaces a single-click option to hand them off, so you are not manually deciding what to pass along
  • Gemini supports multi-agent orchestration, where it creates temporary sub-agents to handle multi-step tasks running in parallel or sequentially over hours or days
  • Teams can build and publish custom skills and tools to a shared company registry, and Gemini learns from each execution to lower token costs and improve consistency over time
  • New data and analytics skills let non-technical business users generate real-time operational reports using plain-language questions, connected to BigQuery and the Knowledge Catalog
  • Gemini can query data across Amazon S3, Azure Data Lake, Salesforce, SAP, and Workday without moving or duplicating the data
  • Industry-specific versions are now in preview for Financial Services and Legal, with Government, Healthcare, and Retail coming soon
  • Governance tools give every agent its own cryptographic identity, role-based permissions, and a full audit trail, while Agent Gateway acts as a firewall enforcing company-wide policies across all agents
  • Smart routing, real-time spend caps per project, and multi-model orchestration including Claude models from Anthropic give enterprises direct control over AI costs
  • New TPU 8i (Google’s custom AI chip) delivers 80% better price-performance than the prior generation, making complex agent tasks faster and more affordable to run at scale

Why it matters:

Google is essentially making the case that enterprise AI needs to be managed less like software and more like headcount. Giving agents their own identities, email addresses, and audit trails is a direct response to the legal and compliance gap that most companies have not figured out yet: when an AI takes an action on your behalf, who is accountable? Google is answering that question at the infrastructure level before regulators force the issue.

For competitors like Microsoft Copilot and Salesforce Agentforce, this is a significant raise because Google is not just selling capabilities but a governance model that enterprises can actually defend to a board or a regulator.

📊 Claude Launches Live Dashboards and Animated Explainers, Makes Docs, Slides, and Design Free

Claude added two new tools in beta: Dashboards, which connects to your company’s data and builds live charts from plain-language questions, and Motion, which turns reports and ideas into short animated explainers you can download as a video.

What’s new:

  • Claude Dashboards connects to data platforms like BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, ClickHouse, and Snowflake, as well as CRM tools like Salesforce, and builds a live dashboard from a plain-language question without writing any SQL
  • Every chart shows the query behind it so you can verify how the number was pulled, and each chart displays when its data was last refreshed
  • Dashboards update automatically as your data changes, and you can send them directly to analytics tools like Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, and Omni for deeper analysis
  • Claude Motion turns a quarterly report, a pricing comparison, or a product walkthrough into a short animated explainer that plays like a video, built entirely from code you can edit
  • Motion animations download as MP4 files and can be opened in tools like Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, and Runway for further editing
  • Motion does not use AI-generated footage or AI-generated people; it animates your own text, charts, shapes, and images
  • Claude Docs, Slides, and Design are now out of beta and available on every plan, including Free, after more than 45 million docs, decks, and designs were created since launch
  • Teams can now collaborate on the same doc, deck, design, or dashboard together with Claude
  • PowerPoint and PDF exports preserve formatting, and decks export directly to Google Slides as editable files
  • Artifacts now support enterprise-grade encryption, and admins can control which artifact templates their organization uses
  • Claude Design is now fully integrated into Claude; the standalone site closes December 14

Why it matters:

The dashboard feature removes one of the most persistent friction points in any business: getting a straight answer out of your own data without waiting on an analyst. Most teams already have the data sitting in Snowflake or BigQuery; what they have been missing is a fast way to ask it a question and get something visual back.

Pairing that with Motion means you can go from raw numbers to a presentation-ready explainer without touching a design tool.
